HHI Advocates for A Resilient Local Food System
Newsletter July 10, 2025
HHI staff member Mark Willis with Gov. Mike DeWine
We had an excellent conversation with Gov. DeWine this week. The topic? Our fundamental message - we can reduce hunger by creating good jobs around healthy local food in our community. We shared how the Miami Valley is building a thriving local food economy thanks to our small farmers, our farmers markets, restaurants that feature local produce and grocery stores like Gem City Market that create jobs while making fresh, healthy food accessible.
Supporting Miami Valley food helps our economy as well as other positives:
Better for the environment
More nutritious (produce loses nutrients soon after it’s picked)
Builds a more secure, self-reliant community
Supports diversity
And it just tastes better!
Join us as we continue this message with the kick off of 2025 Local Food Campaign Friday, Aug. 8 at 1 pm at 2nd Street Market, program featuring Ambassador Tony Hall and our local food champions starting at 1:30. Then you can follow the campaign on our social media for the next 6 weeks as we encourage everyone to “Eat Fresh, Buy Local!”
